The Tithe Series
Ok, I know I said that I would be steering away from series books for a while, but I miss the lingering excitement that pushes me through series books. I really tried very hard to read “Coraline” and I am determined to finish it, but I have this overwhelming drive of madness to read when I pick up a series book. Having said that, I could not help myself and four days ago I began to read “Tithe” by Holly Black. It was such a wonderful book that further opened my eyes up to the world of Fae. A startling book in itself as everything I had known about faeries was turned upside down and sideways!
The storyline was thick with adventure as a human, Kaye, finds out that the faeries she knew as a child were indeed real and she was a pixie. It follows her adventures of helping out Roiben, a knight of the Dark Court, the Unseelie Court so named. Ultimately, Kaye is thrown into the turmoil of the Faerie world, falls in love with Roiben, and must decide if she will play along with her faerie friends plan of sacrificing herself as the Tithe intended to bind the solitary fae to Queen Nicneven of the Unseelie Court. It is all intended to trick the Queen and gain the solitary fae seven more years of freedom. Kaye is supposed to rip her glamour off during the Tithe ceremony and reveal that she is a pixie and the Queen intended to kill her instead of a human. Does the plan work or do things go terrible awry? Pick up the book and find out! Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down as I have finished reading the entire series (three books total) just moments ago.
Until next time,
Erica
